IT WAS INDEED A COMPLIMENT.

What I meant was as follows:

***** dresses fairly well. His clothes fit, he has excellent slip-ons, and his jeans are faded in all the right places.

I wear the same stuff I did in second grade, I have one single proper-fitting shirt, and my pants are either falling apart or over-baggy.

Thus, anything in danger of being too fashionable for you would obviously be far out of my fit-in league.

You're not a sh.it head, though, which I guess negates you from being included in the original statement.
