  • 2004.11.30 - Empty Bottle - Growing, Orthrelm

    TUE. 11/30/04 (7:00pm; $8)
    Growing label: Kranky
Orthrelm label: Troubleman Unlimited, Hydra Head, Three One G related: ABCs, Crom-Tech, Octis
Experimental drone rock outfit GROWING finally make their Empty Bottle debut, playing in support of new Kranky longplayer Soul of the Rainbow and the Harmony of Light. The group earned copious accolades with the release of their debut, Sky’s Run into the Sea, a heady dose of dark psychedelicism that is by turns soothing and intense. DC-based ORTHRELM work the extremes of avant garde jazz, experimental metal and progressive rock, resulting in intricately composed instrumentals that are notable for the vastness and volatility. Guitarist MICK BARR was a founding member of CROM-TECH, drummer JOSH BLAIR is a member of the improvised music ensemble ABCs and as ORTHRELM the two have issued releases for Hydrahead, Three One G, Tolotta and Troubleman Unlimited.

"We must see our rituals for what they are: completely arbitrary things; tired of games and irony, it is good to be dirty and bearded, to have long hair, to look like a girl when one is a boy (and vice versa); one must put "in play", show up, transform, and reverse the systems which quietly order us about."
