WZT HEARTS are a paranoid atmosphere composed of four Baltimore musicians armed with guitars, electronics, laptops and drums. Drawing from an extensive heritage of sound-art, WZT updates the sonic superstructures first charted by LaMonte Young, Stockhausen and AMM with dense, 21st Century drone flourishes and glitch tapestries. The band includes members of Baltimore experimental luminaries French Mistake, Cutter/Hammer, Backbreakerneckbrace, and Spirit Stallion, and they’ve cut their teeth opening for Lungfish, Animal Collective, Wolf Eyes, Growing, and Sightings. THANK YOU rounds out the Baltimore onslaught with a three-piece (drums, guitar, bass, and the occasional organ) exercise in skeletal no-wave. Featuring Jeff McGrath and Elke Wardlaw of dissonant instrumentalists Practice Finger, and Michael Bouyukas of More Dogs, Thank You conjure the bucking Branca sounds of the early 80s LES. This is your chance to catch a glimpse of the rich and fast-paced Baltimore artrock scene, often too busy creating and recreating to tour outside of Charm City.
TV POW is a trio of composers and free improvisers first organized in Tokyo 1995 by Michael Hartman and Brent Gutzeit before moving to Chicago. They employ samplers, percussion, invented instruments, synthesizers, turntables, tape manipulation, computers and multi-speaker surround-sound systems in a constantly evolving soundscape of sparkling electronics, ambient drones, minimalist techno, and cinematic field recordings. Creating through live performance something both new and recombinant, TV Pow has toured throughout Japan, Europe, and the United States. They will be joined at this show by Blake of local improv noise outfit VERTONEN. Photos and sounds available at http://www.tvpow.net/tvpow.htm
