Say you were only able to go to this show or the Powerhouse Sound one. Which one would you choose?

That's tough because Powerhouse Sound are totally amazing, but NRG Ensemble only plays once in a blue moon, and Rob Mazurek plays less. If Hal Russell were still alive, I say NRG Ensemble, but since he's dead, I'm going to recommend the Powerhouse Sound show.

The lineup for the Rob Mazurek group now reads "music for solo cornet & computer" on the Hideout website.

That will probably be not very good (see also Chicago Underground Duo).

Also, NRG Ensemble sounds like a dance group from the early 90s.

I mean their name sounds like a 90s dance act, not their material.

                  Yeah, it's a weak name.

I think I'll go to the Rob Mazurek one because then Mark Mazurek will be there and I can give him a CD.

                    Are there tickets for this?

The bill has completely changed for this date. NRG Ensemble is out, and, now, Rob Mazurek is playing two sets with Kevin Drumm (electronics), Jason Stein (bass clarinet), & John Herndon (drums). In between sets Vandermark Soundclash will be spinning a set titled Right Place Right Time: A Survey of ESP Records.

That bill now sounds fully badass. Kevin Drumm live is a spectacle.
